The Countertops Go In

Man Installing The Counter Top

"Glue" it Down

Once satisfied with the fit, adhesive is applied to the sub top and the countertop adhered to the sub top. Adhesive is typically 100% silicone.

Checklist

Faucet Holes

Drilling faucet holes is one of the last steps of the install. The installer will ask the responsible on site person how many holes to drill and where to drill them. A diagram is drawn on the “Sign off” sheet and initialed by the on site person. If we are asked to return to drill a hole, it will generate a service call charge.

It is not the responsibility of the stone mason to determine how many holes are needed and where.

FYI, the standard spread for a vanity faucet requiring three holes is 8”.

Man Caulking The Sink Gaps

Under Mount Sinks

Standard under mount sinks are secured between the sub top and the stone. 100% silicone is used to create a tight bond and watertight seal. Then caulk is applied to fill the inner gap between the sink and the stone.

Counter Top Holes For Faucets

Drilling Faucet Holes

Faucet holes are a standard size. We drill a 1-3/8” hole to accommodate all faucets. There is no way that a faucet hole can be too small.  There is no larger size.

The hole is drilled through the stone, not the sub top. Drilling through the sub top is the responsibility of the plumber.

Wait 24 hours before connecting plumbing.

Seams

Seams are not invisible. Seams are visible and palpable. We strive to make seams as inconspicuous as possible. Two part epoxy is mixed with custom color that blends with the countertop color. The epoxy mixture is applied to the joint and the two pieces are bonded tightly together.
We use a seam setter to hold the two countertops tightly together until the epoxy sets up.

Counter Tile With A Hole

Drilled Through the Stone

The hole is drilled through the stone, not the sub top. Drilling through the sub top is the responsibility of the plumber.

The faucet should be tightened to the bottom of the stone, not the plywood. Therefore, the hole in the plywood is larger than the stone to allow room for the faucet to be tightened against stone.

Unfinished Counter Top

Thinking Ahead

Contractors who are thinking ahead will drill out or remove the plywood in the area of the faucet to make the job easier for the plumber.

Wait 24 Hours

Wait 24 hours to allow the countetops to set up before installing the faucet or making the plumbing connections.

Smaller Holes

Some accessories require a smaller hole. If you require a custom hole size, it must be brought to the attention of the installer and noted on the diagram.
